Welcome to Hammock Hangout 2009: we will Sing, Snack, & SpaceCat your face off.


Here's the gist of what's up. This website lists a)  who's doing what, b) stuff we thought of, whilst inspired out in the desert last year, for Burning Man 2009, c) what to bring/what we wished we had more of last year/what we already have in the desert (ie: don't bring), & at the end of the page, losely defined set-up sched/strategy. Here goes:

2009 PROJECTS & "DEPARTMENT HEADS":

-cubbie master: i got hanging shelves for cubbie system: KP2  

 

-labeling/management system for trash: PEGORAMA

 

-"Roar Shack", to facilitate mobile karaoke: THE ROARAX ROUNGE our immediate next-door neighbors w/ karaoke art car

 

-KITCHEN ORGANIZATION :

-kitchen shelves: we have some hanging shelves to help organize stuff this year

-Magnet station on the wall for each camper: plate, cup, silverware, bowl magneted to container wall (jonathan is bringing tons of magnets)

-Dedicated ice cooler system (one cooler ONLY FOR ICE that no one goes into for any other reason, one cooler for produce, one cooler for meat/dairy: reduce ice runs) (RPerry I have an extra cooler I can bring)

 

-LIGHTING DESIGNER: for evening light inside the hammock hangout/kitchen: (RPerry I can help with lighting)

-Better lighting in shade areas & kitchen

-Lighting strategy for bar/rope lights for ground

-Lighting strategy for inside hammock hangout

 

PROJECTS WE SAID WE WANTED TO DO THIS YEAR (when we were out in the desert in 2008):

 

if you feel inspired to LEAD or WORK ON one of these projects, please tell me/make a note of it on the wiki! this is only if we want to make the stuff we brainstormed last year  a reality. 

 

-KARAOKE AREA DESIGNER (roarax lounge MIGHT lend us their curtain set-up, if we promise to take extra good care of it & pick it up/haul it out to b.m.):

-Well-defined Karaoke station set-up/area

-pick-up person in the bay area to grab club xclusivo's curtain & lights...

-Flashing light or strobe/APPLAUSE SIGN that lights up/strobes, for stellar karaoke performances... that we can set off whenever we applaud people?

 

 

-BETTER WIND SHEILD TO KEEP THE DUST DOWN IN LOUNGE AREA, MANAGER (?):  if we want to lounge in the shade & a dust storm comes along...

 

 

 

TO BRING/NOT BRING:

What to bring (per person):

-1-2 handles of liquor per person, preferably top-shelf, for the bar.

-a few bottles mixers per person, for the bar.

-SNACKS!  jason & space bro really turned it up a notch last year.  we're snacking the shit out of this town. whatever your snack may be, bring enough to snack strangers!

 

Things We Wished we had More Of Last Year (suggested to bring):

-Tang (want 6 big ones)

-Bailey's (this was a "morning coffee" hit. i encourage you to bring baileys)

-Cheese & chips (we burned through blowtorched nachos like it was our job)

-seedless watermelon (NO SEEDS!)

-Flat-pack chairs & cushions, www.playatech.com

-Empty milk crates for stacking/displaying kitchen stuff, personal cubbies

-Bike parts to fix bikes in container (tubes, patch kits)

-Chopsticks: for eating, cleaning, drying racks

-Magnets for cup/plate/etc. organization 

-More latex gloves for cleaning/work

-Printouts of strategy/planning lists 

-Chef's rubber spatula for cleaning grossness

-Cinder blocks (to possibly heighten structure for Pauls' heads, or make shelves)

-2x4's, general use

-One or 2 rakes (total) for moop

-Generator/power set up so we have 24hr power

-Well-labeled trash system

-Additional ropelights for perimeter

-Small Coleman propane tanks (need to restock): Gas lantern mantles: Northstar #2000-043R, 433 Northstar, #R132-043C

 

 

Don't Bring:

Extension cords (we have a SHITLOAD in the container)

Glow Sticks (whatever, hippie raver)

Glass beer bottles (love beer, hate the bottles)  NO GLASS!!!! EMPTY YOUR HANDLES OF LIQUOR INTO PLASTIC 2Liter BOTTLES, PLEASE!!!! (except for maybe baileys...)

Seeded watermelons (go seedless!) 

 

 

What WE HAVE in the Container: (Logs, futons, hammock fabric, & bikes are at the back of the container, while the bar, supply bins, and rugs are closer to the door.)

23 small logs (down from 40, originally)

Rope

    -big hemp rope (12)

    -big white rope- guy lines (6) -- attached to 42' log

    -boxes of white polypropalene twine -- trashed them because they sucked!

SET UP STRATEGY/SCHEDULE:

 

 

BEFORE THURSDAY, AUG 27:

* figure out where to place container, flag off area (paul)

* get the cables etc. out of the container (paul)

* place pole on container (paul + team)

* place the solar lamps and tie reflective ribbons on the cables

 

THURSDAY: unload container, map out camp and start building personal structures.

 

FRIDAY & SATURDAY: after building personal structures, major build days (BUILDING PROCESS/STEPS TO BE DEFINED)

*set up carport tents for kitchen & private camp lounge      

          1) find carport tent boxes in container

          2) organize all the pieces

          3) put them together

 

*set-up kitchen (& cubbie area?)

          1) find tables in container

          2) set up workbench, unpack tools & organize

          3) set up food/pantry/water storage area

          4) set up stove

          5) set up sink/grey water strainer

          6) set up evaporation rack for burnable food particles

          7) set up LABELED burnable bin, LABELED recycling, & LABELED garbage areas

          8) set up produce/meat/drinks cooler-town

          9) put the beers on ice, yo

 

SATURDAY: pull out parachute and tie it down. Need at least 6 cars to be there for that.

hammock set-up:

     1) bang rebar into ground

     2) put up metal poles on top of rebar

     3) bang poles into ground so they stand up nice & strong inside hangout

     4) hang hammocks

 

SUNDAY & MONDAY: Camp beautification

set up public loungey area inside parachute:

     1) pull out carpets & logs from container

     2) put logs, carpets, & futons inside hangout tent

     3) set up logs as benches inside parachute house     

     4) decorate inside of hammock hangout/karaoke bar/signage

     5) lay down small carpets & futons on ground

     6) find chairs and coffee/small drink tables in container

     7) set up inside lounge and lounge, yo

 

MON-SUN: Have fun!

 

Sun-Tues: Clean. Take notes/label everything as it goes into container. Brainstorm for next year.
